The scarcity of alpacas in North America, coupled with worldwide demand for alpacas and their fiber, have made them an extremely attractive investment. Alpacas can be raised successfully in a wide variety of habitats on small acreage. They are very disease-resistant and “environmentally friendly”, since their gentle browsing does not uproot the grass. Prized for their unique silky fiber, alpacas are considered the “investment animal of the millennium.”
